Here’s What You Should Know About Medicare Advantage!

Medicare Advantage, or Medicare Part C, provides quality coverage for your medical care. It’s a great option to reduce your out-of-pocket Medicare costs and receive some extra benefits. Here’s what you need to know!

What is Medicare Advantage?

Medicare Advantage is a private alternative to Original Medicare (Part A and Part B). While you will still be enrolled in and pay for Parts A and B, Part C helps coordinate your care for lower out-of-pocket costs and offers additional benefits that vary between providers.

Since it’s offered privately, you can choose between insurers in your area based on their price point and offered benefits. It’s a great option for almost 30% of Medicare enrollees and could work for you as well.

What it Covers

While private, Part C is required to offer all of the same benefits and coverage as Part A and Part B. Some of this coverage includes:

  • Doctor’s visits
  • Inpatient hospital stays and treatments
  • Limited stays at a skilled nursing facility
  • Inpatient rehabilitation
  • Limited home healthcare
  • Hospice care
  • Testing services
  • Durable medical equipment (DME)
  • Mental health services
  • Emergency transportation
  • Preventive care

But, as mentioned above, Part C plans may offer more. These benefits may include:

  • Limited dental, vision, and hearing
  • Prescription drugs
  • Gym memberships
  • Transportation for medical care
  • Home meal delivery

How to Enroll

If you have Original Medicare, you already qualify for Medicare Advantage — all you have to do is enroll. If you don’t have Original Medicare yet, you can enroll online through the Social Security Administration website.

Once you have Part A and Part B, all you have to do to enroll in a Part C plan is find one in your area that works for your budget and health needs. It’s important to compare available options to get your best insurance plan.

How to Estimate Your Costs

Medicare Part C is very affordable. Premiums are typically low or don’t require one at all. You likely won’t have a deductible, either. Just keep in mind that you will still have to keep up with your Original Medicare costs.

You will have some out-of-pocket costs with Medicare Advantage, but it will help reduce your overall costs for your Original Medicare coverage.
